Basic Baseball Statistics

1B - Single
Event that results from a ball hit into fair territory and the batter reaches first base without an error being assigned to a fielder.

2B - Double
Event that results from a ball hit into fair territory and the batter reaches second base during the same play, without an error being assigned to a fielder.

3B - Triple
Event that results from a ball hit into fair territory and the batter reaches third base during the same play, without an error being assigned to a fielder.

BB - Base on Balls (Walk)
Event that results from a four balls being thrown to a single batter, before 3 strikes are recorded and the batter advances to first base.

HR - Home Run
Event that results from a ball hit into fair territory over the outfield fence without an error being assigned to a fielder, or a fair ball that is not returned to the infield in time to result in an out before the batter reaches home plate.

HBP - Hit by Pitch
Event that results in the batter being hit by the pitched ball, and the batter is awarded first base.

GS - Grand Slam
A home run that is hit while each base is occupied by a runner. Results in four RBI's being credited to the batter.

IBB - Intentional Base on Balls
Event that results from four balls being intentionally thrown outside of the strike zone to award the batter first base.

K - Strikeout
Event that results from a batter swinging unsuccessfully or takes a ball in the strike zone three times before four balls are thrown, or a bunted foul on the third strike.

AB - At Bats
Number of times a batter appears in the batters box, excluding walks, hit by pitch, sacrifices, interference and obstructions.

H - Hits
Number of times a batter reaches base by hitting a ball in fair territory without being tagged out before reaching first base or an error is assigned to a fielder.

PA - Plate Appearances
Total number of times a batter appears in the batters box.

R - Runs
Number of times a player crosses home plate before being tagged out, resulting in his team receiving a point.

RBI - Runs Batted In
Number of runners that reach home plate to score a run during the batters time at bat, except during a ground out double play or error by a fielder.

SF - Sacrifice Fly
Number of fly balls that were hit to the outfield, and resulted in a runner, that was on base, scoring.

SH - Sacrifice Hit
Number of times that the batter bunted the ball and was called out, with a runner advancing or scoring during the play.

BA - Batting Average
Number of hits divided by the number of at bats. This is a basic measure of how successful a batter is at putting the ball in play and reaching base safely.
